BBC One: 5.9 million viewers; 25.8% audience share; 5th most watched programme of the day; Appreciation Index 88

BBC HD: 97,000 viewers

BBC Three repeat: 214,000 viewers; 3.9% share

Day Two

BBC One: 5.6 million viewers; 24% share; most watched programme of the day; AI 90

BBC HD: 82,000 viewers

BBC Three repeat: 282,000 viewers; 5.8% share

Day Three

BBC One: 5.9 million viewers; 27.1% share; 3rd most watched programme of the day; AI 90

BBC HD: 105,000 viewers

BBC Three: 225,000 viewers

Day Four

BBC One: 6.2 million viewers; 27.0% share; 2nd most watched programme of the day; AI 91

BBC HD: 82,000 viewers

BBC Three: 232,000 viewers

Day Five

Who and Torchwood to launch BBC America HD

BBC America has announced that Torchwood: Children of Earth and Planet of the Dead will be part of the programming that will launch new HD channel BBC America HD.

Children of Earth will air on the week commencing 20 July, with Planet of the Dead airing on the following Sunday.


Planet of the Dead final figures

The final audience figures for Planet of the Dead are in – the episode was watched by 9.54 million people. The Appreciation Index figure, out of 100, was 88, considered “Excellent”.

The BBC HD channel had its highest audience figure for the episode, with 200,000 viewers tuning in.

The Sunday BBC3 repeat was seen by an additional 0.91 million viewers – approximately 90-95% of these were new viewers – and had an AI of 89.


Over 8.5 million viewers for ‘Planet of the Dead’

The Doctor Who Easter Special Planet of the Dead, which aired on Saturday, was watched by 8.41 million viewers on BBC One. This was a 39.6% share of the total audience watching television at that time. BBC HD saw its highest ever audience figure with the Special – an additional 184,000 viewers. This raises the total to 8.59 million.

The accompanying Doctor Who Confidential episode Desert Storm was seen by 0.46 million viewers, a 2.2% share.

These figures are rough overnight figures. The final figures will be released in ten days’ time, which will most likely be significantly higher than the overnights, possibly raising it to 9 million.


Second Special to air “November-ish”

April 7, 2009

Russell T Davies announced this morning that the second of the 2009 Specials, name as yet unknown, would air “November-ish”. This follows an announcement in DWM 407 that the Special would air in the second half of the year, but before the Christmas period as had previously been speculated.

Interviewed on BBC Breakfast, he also stated that the Easter Special Planet of the Dead, which will air on Saturday, was only completed late last night.

Planet of the Dead trailer, finalised air date

Planet of the Dead has been confirmed to be shown on BBC One on Saturday 11 April at 6:45, and will last an hour.

This comes as the trailer for Planet of the Dead premiered on BBC One. The slightly different,  shall we say, trailer looks very interesting and can be viewed on the YouTube here.


‘Planet of the Dead’ to air on Easter weekend

The BBC has announced that the Doctor Who Easter special Planet of the Dead will air on the week commencing Saturday 11 April (ie 11-17 April) on BBC One. It has not yet been confirmed whether it will be broadcast on Saturday 11 or Sunday 12 as yet.
