The final audience figures for Planet of the Dead are in – the episode was watched by 9.54 million people. The Appreciation Index figure, out of 100, was 88, considered “Excellent”.
The BBC HD channel had its highest audience figure for the episode, with 200,000 viewers tuning in.
The Sunday BBC3 repeat was seen by an additional 0.91 million viewers – approximately 90-95% of these were new viewers – and had an AI of 89.

The Doctor Who Easter Special Planet of the Dead, which aired on Saturday, was watched by 8.41 million viewers on BBC One. This was a 39.6% share of the total audience watching television at that time. BBC HD saw its highest ever audience figure with the Special – an additional 184,000 viewers. This raises the total to 8.59 million.
The accompanying Doctor Who Confidential episode Desert Storm was seen by 0.46 million viewers, a 2.2% share.
These figures are rough overnight figures. The final figures will be released in ten days’ time, which will most likely be significantly higher than the overnights, possibly raising it to 9 million.
